Teaching maths is not just my job, its my passion

I am passionate about learning and teaching mathematics and explaining the links between different mathematical ideas to the student. This enables the student to understand the foundations of maths as a whole and provides a better basis for them to go on and take control of their study of this vital subject.

Timely intervention,  will not only improve their knowledge and skills but also boost their confidence in their ability to learn.

Everyone is able to learn and use everyday and functional maths.  I  believe that most can go on and achieve good passes in GCSE 1-9 or Functional skills maths.  But I know many students’ are not given the individual level of support they need to do so and will, go on to wrongly think they can’t do maths and therefore not worth the effort required to do so.   Timely intervention,  will improve their knowledge and skills and help boost their confidence.

An intervention like this need not be long-term to be effective.

To allow a student to improve it is important to identify their strength, weaknesses, and misconceptions and correct them.  This is best done through one to one discussion between the student and teacher.  This is impossible to do as part of a crowded school timetable but can be achieved if good school teaching is supplemented by an experienced and skilled tutor specialised in teaching maths across the school curriculum.   The timely intervention of this type need not be long-term.   Once a student’s misconceptions have been addressed they are often able to go on and thrive within the school without requiring further support from a tutor.
I am a qualified maths teacher with over 12 years of experience teaching maths to students in Schools,  colleges,  and Sure Start centres throughout Kent.  Since April 2017,  I have worked as a full-time freelance maths tutor completing more than four hundred hours of lessons during the last year.
